Center for Public Interest Law (CEPIL) is seeking to recruit for the following position:

Background:

Centre for Public Interest Lawis a non-profit, non-partisan, non-religious organization that aims to protect public interest in Uganda using law as a tool. As a member of Legal Aid Service Providers Network (LAPSNET), CEPIL aims at ensuring equal access to social, economic and political opportunities without discrimination on the basis of their ethnicity, social standing, religion, political opinion or membership of a political party or organization.

Formed in 2009, CEPIL’s core activities include but not limited to; Public Interest Litigation, Advocacy Engagements and Action Oriented Research.

Job Description & Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all financial transactions are carried out and recorded in accordance with standard financial procedures.
  • Make payments & receive cash
  • Maintain cashbooks and accounts records and ensure coding is accurate.
  • Preparation of monthly payroll.
  • Preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports to be shared with programmes team, donors and board.
  • Preparation and review of budgets.
  • Provide support for the development of appropriate financial systems and help all staff to understand and work with them.
  • Ensure that CEPIL meets all URA and other statutory/legal requirements from time to time.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations and journal entries for the balance sheet accounts and provide a listing of the balances and their trend analysis.
  • Provide financial advice by studying operational issues; applying best financial principles and practices.
  • Coordinate finance and programme audits with administration and programmes team.
  • Provide support to the office in all other financial matters.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate for the Finance Officer vacancy must have:

  • Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Accounting or Finance, Certified Accountant Technician
  • Certified Public Accountant Part 1 (CPA 1) or its equivalent
  • Three years’ experience in finance, administration preferably in NGO setting.
  • Computer skills Microsoft Office, QuickBooks
  • Proven capacity to prioritize tasks, plan and organize your own efforts to meet objectives and deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and experience in working with a partner-based approach.
  • Eye for details and deadlines
  • Ability to analyse interpret and present financial reports
  • High levels of confidentiality and accountability
  • Supervisory Skills
